Red River Horse Breeders Association

Red River Horse Breeders: Sire of the Year

The Red River Valley Horse Breeders Association began the Sire of the Year award at the October 2011 Great Midwest International Horse Show and Red River Valley International Select Sire Futurity! It's long been the goal of the association to promote, recognize, and reward a stallion owner's involvement in and promotion of the Red River Valley International Select Sire Futurity and Great Midwest International Horse Show.

The Horse Breeders will award the stallion's owner whose offspring are best represented in the futurity. Please see the criteria below to ensure your stallion is eligible for this exciting award and how to maximize his chances to WIN! If you have any questions please contact Carolyn Stone at 701-640-5162 or email at sparkybillbar@hotmail.com.

This is an annual award, based on each year's futurity show. It is not cumulative like the Super Horse Award. All stallions start fresh each year.
Thank you for your continued support in the futurity. We look forward to seeing you in October!
2020 will be the last year this award is given.

Awards
  • Engraved Belt Buckle
  • Recognition in following year's Show Program/Catalog
  • Recognition on Red River Horse Breeders website

Eligible Stallions
  • Stallions must be nominated in the RRVISSF Stallion Service Auction for the current year.
  • Stallions must have at least one eligible offspring exhibited in the RRVISSF.

Point System
  • Stallions (or get of stallions) which are exhibited on Stallion Avenue = 5 points
  • Stallions who's breeding sells during the auction = 5 points
  • Each offspring nominated by the catalog deadline = 2.5 points
  • Each offspring with paid futurity entry (per class) = 2.5 point
Example: If a two-year old is paid into all four available classes, it will earn 10 points for its sire for the paid entries. (Four classes x 2.5 points per class = 10 points)
  • Points in the futurity classes will be tallied based on the number of horses it places above in each class it is exhibited in.
Example: If six horses are exhibited in two-year old snaffle bit futurity western pleasure class, the winning horse will earn 6 points; the last place horse will earn 1 point based on participation. (This is different than how the futurity is scored. Please see the website for the futurity Super Horse point system.
