Red River Valley Select Sire Futurity Rules
2010 SHOW BILL
2009 Futurity Results
The governing body of this futurity shall be: The Chairperson, The Treasurer, The Secretary, and 2 members from the Red
River Horse Breeders board.
A futurity is a program designed to promote the young horse. It provides classes for
weanlings through 3 year olds. It is a show based on a breeding program, with select sires, designed to promote and encourage
the horse breeder/owner to breed the best quality horses possible by selecting stallions that compliment their mares. A program
like this helps boost the market and increase the breeders' incentives for raising quality horses. It gives the breeder/owner
a chance to compare their breeding choices with others.
This futurity is named the Red River Valley International
Select Sire Futurity.
1. Select sires are Appaloosas and Quarter Horses whose service has been donated, accepted
and successfully auctioned through the RRVISSF stallion service auction each fall. It is a progressive silent auction held
during the futurity show in conjunction with the Great Midwest Horse Show. The Services sold are for the following year breeding
season. April 1 is the deadline for donating a service.
2. Eligibility - all offspring, sired by select sires,
as defined in #1, will be eligible for the futurity in their respective age and breed classes. All offspring must be registered
and eligible to show in their respective breed associations. Appaloosa weanlings may show with NC papers. NOTE - solid horses
with registration papers and performance permits will be eligible to show, regardless of being an outcross. Performance Permits
eliminate the CPO papers. Registration papers are required for all horses shown in the futurity.
3. The date of the
futurity will be announced by March 1st of each respective year. It is held in the fall.
4. Nominations are due by December
31st of the birth year of the foal, unless being shown as a weanling. If shown as a weanling, the 1st entry fee and Nomination
fee are due July 1st. When the weanling nomination is paid, no other payments are needed until the year the horse is shown.
Remaining entry fee is due September 1st. Any payments not postmarked by the due date will be assessed $1 per day late fee.
If late fees are not paid, entry will not be allowed to show. No entries will be taken after September 25th.
5. An additional
penalty will be added for horses not nominated in the year foaled: The penalty will be a flat fee of $50 for yearlings; for
2 year olds; or for 3 year olds. This is in addition to the entry fees if shown.
6. Nomination, entry fees and deadlines:
Weanling Nomination Fee $25. Due July 1st of year foaled if shown If not shown, fee is due anytime prior to Dec.

9. Weanling classes will be split if 16 or more nominations are paid per class. Class
split will be
determined based on number of horses at the show and entered to be exhibited. We will pay to 6 places,
but place through 10 to calculate points towards the "Super Horse" award.
10. All late fees, nominations
and entry fees in a split weanling class will be combined and divided
equally unless it is an uneven split, then it
will be divided accordingly.
11. All fees collected will be returned to the winning participants less an office
charge not to exceed 25% of all fees collected. The six top places will be paid.
12. 10% of all futurity payback will
be deducted from the exhibitors check and returned to the
stallion (sire) owner. Stallion owner is to be defined as
that owner who donated the service that resulted in the offspring winning the payback.
13. Money will be added to the
purse for all classes from the proceeds of the stallion service
auction as it is available each year.
14. Added
purse is divided by total paid up entries, as of September 25th with equal amounts
added for each paid up entry.
15.
Penalty money will go into the purse of the classes entered. If no classes are entered it will be split into the classes offered
for that age group.
16. The prize money in any tied placing will be added together and divided equally.
17.
In any class that may not have 6 entrants, that portion of the purse for that class beyond the
number exhibited will
be distributed among those showing by the following payback percentage table.
18. No refunds of nominations or entry fees will be given.
19. Each breed will show in their own respective
breed classes.
20. Drug testing is an option of the Futurity Committee.
21. Each class will be shown 1 time under
2 or 3 judges. When the judges' cards are in, the horses will be
lined up according to each judges' placing.
The combined score of all judges will determine the final
placing. Decisions of the judges will be final. Any act of
discourtesy to a judge or any
official of the show on the part of any owner, rider, trainer or groom will immediately
disqualify
any horse or horses with which they are associated and entry fees forfeited.
22. Each judge will alternate
classes as a tie breaker judge. The tie breaker judges' scorecard will be
used to break ties in each class for awards
only. The prize money in the tied places will be added together and equally divided.
23. If an entry fails to appear
for their class on time, the entry fee shall be forfeited. If there is a tack
change, the announcer or gate person must
be notified. That exhibitor will have 5 minutes,
starting when the last of the other horses are in the arena.
24.
The Futurity Committee reserves and retains the absolute right to determine and fully decide any
issues that may arise,
including any point not covered by rules of the futurity, and to make any
corrections or alterations or determinations
as it, in it's absolute discretion, may deem appropriate and necessary.
25. This futurity has a program called the
Select Sire Futurity Super Horse Award. Points are tabulated separately for QH and App with 1 award given for each breed.
A horse must show as a 3 year old to win the Super Horse Award, but doesn't need to show every year. Points will be awarded
as follows: 10 pts for 1st, 9 pts for 2nd, 8 pts for 3rd, 7 pts for 4th, etc. This point system will be used no matter how
many are shown in the class. The winner of each breed will receive a trophy saddle.
26. If there are any ties for the
Super Horse Award, they will be broken by the horse that has shown in the most classes in the futurity program from weanlings
through their 3 year old year. BEGINNING WITH THE 2010 WEANLINGS, THESE HORSES WILL COMPETE
FOR THE SUPER HORSE AWARD TO BE GIVEN AS A 2 YEAR OLD. THESE HORSES MUST SHOW IN 5 CLASSES FROM THEIR WEANLING YEAR THROUGH
THEIR 2 YEAR OLD YEAR TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE SUPER HORSE AWARD.
27. Sale of a nominated horse - In
the event a horse nominated for this futurity is sold or transferred,
the futurity nomination will remain with the horse.
Information on the eligibility to this futurity is the responsibility of the seller.
The futurity classes will be held with the corresponding breed show classes if one is offered. If the class is
Not offered as a breed class one will be held just for the futurity horses.
You must enter the QH or App class to
show and be entered in the futurity show.
HALTER CLASSES
Halter classes will be ruled by
AQHA & ApHC, using their breed standards.
YEARLING LONGE LINE
1. Horses shown
in a halter. The only attachment allowed to the halter is a longe line that cannot
exceed
30 feet. No chains allowed. It is permissible to use a longe whip.
2. Exhibitors enter the arena and await the
whistle. One and a half minutes are allowed to exhibit the
horse. It is required that
each horse walk, trot and lope in each direction. Work can begin in either
direction. If the horse plays on the longe line, it shall not be counted against the horse. It is to be
judged as a pleasure prospect. At the judges' discretion, they may penalize a horse for excessive
bucking, running off or displaying attitudes uncomplimentary to pleasure horses, such as ear pinning
or tail wringing.
3. Halfway through, the exhibitor will receive a 45 second notice. At the end of time, the
whistle will be
blown. The exhibitors shall retire from the working area and remain
in the arena until the competition
is complete. They will then line up and prepare for
the conformation judging.
4. Horses are judged 70% on movement and 30% on conformation. Judges may not discriminate
for or
against bulk, but rather look for the total picture.
5. An exhibitor
may only show one horse in each Longe Line class. The same exhibitor must show both
segments
of the class.
6. If the class has 12 or more entries, it will be split into 2 working groups.
7.
Conventional western attire is mandatory. If an entry is considered to be a hunt seat prospect, the
horse is braided and shown at the walk, long trot and canter. The exhibitor may wear hunt seat attire.
AT THE 2011 GREAT MIDWEST INTERNATIONAL HORSE SHOW, WE WILL ADD A YEARLING TRAIL IN-HAND CLASS FOR BOTH THE
